INTERGENERATIONAL CAMPS
_
CAMP OF THE HEART
Open to all ages
Camp of the Heart: an autistic/mental retardation/Down’s Syndrome camp. This camp is designed for anyone with these types of disabilities! You will enjoy many different activities while at camp, including: games, singing, dancing, crafts, walks, nature, and a lot of fun. The camp will be in Michaux Lodge which is totally handicap accessible. We will have several volunteers on hand, but if you are willing to come with your loved one and if you think they will need your presence you may do so for only $25. Kara Druckenmiller, the director, is a certified special education teacher who has worked with handicapped people in many different environments. She will be looking at the needs of each individual and designing the camp to meet their needs so each individual is able to have a good time. To help in this process, please include with your registration a one page description of the individual: disability, independence level, medical needs, likes and dislikes and if someone will be staying with the individual. This experience will be a growing, enriching, spiritual experience for everyone involved!
GRAND CAMP (minimum age 5)
An opportunity to be “partners in creation” with that special someone in your family; to bridge the ages with a rich camp experience filled with fun and excitement hiking, swimming, sitting around the campfire, singing, creating crafts.
PARENT/CHILD (minimum age 5)
This camping experience will provide parent(s) and child(ren) unique opportunities for personal and family growth within an intergenerational community. It will also provide and extended period for family members to be together in an outdoor setting. Games, hiking, swimming, cookouts, campfires, Bible study, and vespers will mark these three days of faith and fellowship.
FAMILY
A venture for either congregations or individuals to come together for an intergenerational experience of camping. Camps are usually 3 days long. Experience Wednesday evening’s all-camp vespers; share in Thursday’s all-camp picnic and talent show. Visit the craft shop, swimming pool, and nature center. Enjoy Bible studies, cookouts and campfires.
SCRAPBOOKING BY FAITH
For 8th Graders through Adults
With or without photos, you can create a Faithbook that chronicles the “God moments” of your life or the Christian qualities you admire in a friend or loved one. A Faithbook is a scrapbook with a “twist of FAITH.” During this 3 day camp, we will begin putting our faith journeys into words and sharing them together. We will use the sanctuaries of Hartman Center to inspire our journaling. While you will probably want to add pictures at some point in time, it is not necessary to have photos prepared in time for camp. No previous scrapbooking experience is necessary, just the desire to record your Faith story. Tools, instruction, and suggested scripture verses will be provided, based on the Creative Memories Faithbooking program, as well as other Christian Scrapbooking resources.
