Family Camp

Open to all ages

A venture for either congregations or individuals to come together for an intergenerational experience of camping. Camps are usually 3 days long. Experience Wednesday evening’s all-camp vespers; share in Thursday’s all-camp picnic and talent show. Visit the craft shop, swimming pool, and nature center. Enjoy Bible studies, cookouts and campfires.

 
Lions, Hogwarts, and Hobbits, Oh My!

For those youth completing grades 6-9

is a camping opportunity that brings together the worlds of Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Hartman Center. Campers with no reading experience with these books to campers with a great deal of experience with the literature of these authors will find value in this camp experience.

Come and experience the typical camp activities of Hartman Center while discovering God in the themes, the examples of friendship and community that these great books and authors have created and express in their literature.

 
Insane Holiday Celebrations

For those completing grades 4-6

This will be the biggest holiday mix-up mash-up you’ve ever seen! We’ve taken all your favorite holidays, added some you might never have heard of from right here in the US, topped it off with holiday celebrations from around the globe, and put them all in a blender. You won’t believe what comes out! We’ll have typical camp activities plus crafts and games galore. Join us for what we promise will be a jam-packed, whirlwind, weeklong party.p>

Parent/Child Camp

An intergenerational Experience (minimum age 5)

This camping experience will provide parent(s) and child(ren) unique opportunities for personal and family growth within an intergenerational community. It will also provide an extended period for family members to be together in an outdoor setting. Games, hiking, swimming, cookouts, campfires, Bible study, and vespers will mark these three days of faith and fellowship.

 
Beach Bash 2013

For those youth completing grades 9-12

Nothing is more fun than heading to the beach!  So have a blast at church camp this summer in the surf, and the sand, and the Son, all at the HC Beach Bash.  Each day this week we'll visit a different beach, play some games, learn about God, and make lasting friendships.

The week will end with a big splash...a luau Hartman Center style!  See you there.  Aloha.

 
eXtreme High/Low Ropes

For those completing grade 10 through Young Adult

When we started putting this camp together and exploring some eXtreme possibilities, director George Robertson’s comments were, “Oh Wow!” over and over again. This camp will start out with team building on our own Low Ropes course (Co-Op Trail). You’ll be doing some things that normal camps don’t have time for. Then later in the week, you’ll travel to nearby Camp Krislund and challenge yourself on their two different High Ropes courses and also their 50 foot climbing tower, complete with a 500 foot Zip Line off the top! Talk about eXtreme!!

 
Grand Camp

An intergenerational experience (minimum age 5)

An opportunity to be “partners in creation” with that special someone in your family; to bridge the ages with a rich camp experience filled with fun and excitement – hiking, swimming, sitting around the campfire, singing, creating crafts. This can be a special and unique time to connect with grandchildren and introduce to them God’s creation.

 
Challenge Camp

For those youth completing grades 7-10

Are you a competitive person? Do you feel like you are well rounded and ready to accept any challenge set in front of you? Here’s your chance to prove yourself at the first ever “Challenger” camp. A variety of different spiritual, mental, and athletic challenges/games will be in store for you from sports, to board games, to eating competitions, you will be challenged!

If you think you got what it takes to compete with the best of them and prove it! Join the “Challenge”.

 
Mud, Bugs and God

For those youth completing grades 3-6

A new perspective for Junior Campers! Rachel Hackenberg will be helping campers to understand what it means to be “at one” with creation. How do we camp out but leave no trace behind of our ever being there? How do we keep from getting lost in the woods? What plants are edible? How do we survive in the wild? Sound like fun? Join us and invite a friend to come along!!

For those completing grades 9-12

This camp is designed to help these emerging adults to work at being in community and dealing with the issues of emerging young adults. You will experience camp from a more mature level doing many things that younger campers do not have the opportunity to do but also learning a little more about being a leader. Faith building and learning how to express your faith and live your faith are all a part of this camp experience.

 
HC Olympics

For those youth completing grades 7-9

The Olympics is coming to Hartman Center this summer! Although it is not an Olympic year, athletes are continuously training. Join us in all of the festivities that makes the Olympics so much fun. We will take each camper's strengths and weakness to grow as a team in sports and in our relationship with God. We’ll learn about events and the tradition of the Olympics.

Water World Camp

For those completing grades 6-9

Dive into a week of water fun at Hartman Center. Anything that deals with water - this camp will have! From a wet time in the pool to creek hiking, fishing, rafting and tubing. And don't forget classic Hartman Center camping fun in addition to learning about water ecosystems and water conservation. And don't rule out a trip to a water cavern and possibly...water balloons!!

 
Pioneer Adventure

For those completing grades 4-6

Junior campers have a taste of the outdoors as they live in the A-frames of Pioneer I and eat their meals in the Pioneer “dining hall.” Nature, Christian fellowship, and Bible study are combined to develop a feeling of community in the group. Leadership is shared in the planning of activities such as hiking, crafts, rafting, swimming and games throughout the week. The Pioneer I area is an outdoor camping experience. The A-frames have wooden roofs and floors and canvas end flaps. There are flush toilets and hot showers in the shower house, but there is no electricity available. This style of small group living in the woods is designed to build close relationship among campers as they experience true fellowship and acceptance, high levels of concern, communication and trust – a real taste of Christian community.

 
Camp of the Heart

For those completing 4th grade through Adults

Camp of the Heart: an autistic/mental retardation/Down’s Syndrome camp. This camp is designed for anyone with these types of disabilities! You will enjoy many different activities while at camp, including: games, singing, dancing, crafts, walks, nature, and a lot of fun. The camp will be in Michaux Lodge which is totally handicap accessible. We will have several volunteers on hand, but if you are willing to come with your loved one and if you think they will need your presence you may do so for only $25. Kara Druckenmiller, the director, is a certified special education teacher who has worked with handicapped people in many different environments. She will be looking at the needs of each individual and designing the camp to meet their needs so each individual is able to have a good time. To help in this process, please include with your registration a one page description of the individual: disability, independence level, medical needs, likes and dislikes and if someone will be staying with the individual. This experience will be a growing, enriching, spiritual experience for everyone involved!

 
An Unexpected Journey

For those youth completing grades 6-9

“Where is the Hobbit who was eager to know what lies behind the next hill?” asks Gandalf Bilbo. “Hop-it” and join in an Unexpected Journey with Matthias and Stefanie Hasenbrink and share the love of exploring and of being out and about together in God’s creation. We might make unexpected discoveries about ourselves, about others, and about God.

You don’t have to know the movie to participate – this camp will fill you in and you will become a part of a hobbit’s exciting and sometimes unexpected journey.

 
Volleyball

With the success of the PSU Women’s Volleyball team over the past 4 years, there is a new excitement for this wonderful game. From team volleyball to doubles volleyball, all kinds of fun will be had exploring the ways a group of individuals need to work together to become a team. A trip to PSU might even be in the works!

 
Young Pioneer

For those completing grades 2-4

This is a week-long experience where campers stay in cabins and receive a well-rounded introduction to camping under the guidance of helping and caring counselors. Cooperation and friendship develop as campers swim, hike, create crafts, study the Bible and participate in many other wonderful and creative camp activities.

 
Night Owl

For those youth completing grades 7-9 Back by popular demand!

This camp is unique in that some of the activities you will be doing happen when the rest of the camp is sound asleep, but this is when many things happen in the forest. Many times when we sleep, God’s creatures wake up. Come and explore to see who and what is awake when it gets dark out. Mom’s and Dad’s don’t worry, this kind of experience calls for some mid-day naps!

Golf

For those youth completing grades 7-11

With the ever increasing popularity of golf, and with several inquiries about this type of camp, we are again offering a golf camp. This camp will include the normal camping experience of Hartman Center but will also be looking at the game of golf and how it can be a spiritual experience and a life long learning experience. Instruction will be a part of the camp but you will need your own set of clubs. Different aspects of golf will be explored and the week will culminate with at least one outing at a local course. This camp also has the possibility of Parents coming along with their child. Check with Director for more info!!

 
Getting Started

For children completing grade 3

For some, this will be the first time away from home. A three-day experience will serve as a gentle and interesting introduction to camping. This 3 day camp experience will be in our cabins and meals are served in the dining hall. This particular Getting Started experience is held in conjunction with a Pioneer Adventure camp where some activities will be together and some separate. This is a gentle way of introducing Hartman Center to new campers.

 
The Carpenter's Apprentice

Our FIRST attempt at offering a camping experience for just men!

This camp will be a combination WORK camp experience, taking on projects planned and supervised by our Maintenance Coordinator John Freed (there are always things to work on at Hartman Center), and a retreat where will be using a curriculum called “The Carpenter’s Apprentice” to talk about and understand issues from a man’s perspective.

We will still have time for relaxation and maybe even a trip to a local golf course or a canoe excursion down the Juniata River.

 
CSI Milroy Camp

The fascinating world of forensic science comes to Hartman Center! Campers will explore a variety of activities associated with investigating mysteries that pop up in our everyday world. The week ends with a mystery that campers will use their new skills to try and solve.

 
Spiritual Practices for Women

For those completing grade 10-Adult

A wonderful team of women will be coordinating this exciting week – Sue D’heedene, Betsy Bruaw, Winnie Kowalik and Deb Frailey – which will consist of a little of everything! A little yoga, some hiking, some knitting, some journaling, enjoying time at the pool, maybe do a little cooking (very little!), and just being in God’s creation and enjoying camping at its best.

Hoops Camp

For those completing grades 4-6

For those children who love basketball and have a passion for playing it and for learning more about it. You will learn and work on skills that are needed to help you become a better player on the basketball court but also a better person on the court of life by teaching you what sportsmanship is all about. But it’s not all about basketball! You will also experience all that Hartman Center has to offer.p>

 
4th of July Weekend Community Adventure

Here’s an opportunity for all God’s people: ages 0-99 – small groups, couples, individuals and families!

Enjoy these days relaxing in the beauty of nature with options for many activities: daily Bible study, spiritual practices, and learning something new. We will have crafts, games, swimming, perhaps even some offsite trips. You can bring your own camper or tent (we have water & electric hook-ups); stay in one of our cabins, Michaux Lodge; or the Stone House.

There will also be fireworks for the 4th of July! This year camp runs from Wednesday through Sunday, concluding with worship on Sunday morning. There are family maximums for this camp: $700 for one of our buildings; $450 for a campsite.

On you registration form please put what building you would like to be housed in: Michaux Lodge, Stone House or a Cabin.

 
Soccer

Designed for those youth interested in learning and/or improving soccer skills and techniques. Bible study and fellowship combine to make this a unique blend of the physical and spiritual – body, mind and spirit.

 
Wilderness Survival Skills

For those completing grades 9-12

Do like getting dirty? Do you like learning new things? Do you like to be in God’s great outdoors? Then this camp may be for you!  We will cover many things like fire-building, water harvest, emergency signaling, wilderness first aid, no trace camping and many more.  Directed by Parker an EMT and Andrew an Eagle Scout, we will give campers some ideas of wilderness survival enjoying God’s creation in safety, prevention and conservation.

 
eXtreme Camp

Two sports camp enthusiasts, Melissa Snyder and Jen Crothers, come back to share their love of sports with campers. They plan on testing the eXtreme limits of sports and spirituality. This will definitely not be your “normal” sports camp…lots of surprises and eXtreme fun!

 
CIT (Counselor In Training)

For those completing grades 9-12

Offers hands-on leadership training and experience, and is designed to build on the interest and desire of those who look forward to becoming a member of the Summer Service Team one day. Participants must submit a letter of reference from their pastor. Those who satisfactorily complete CIT camp may have the opportunity to serve as volunteer counselors at some point during the remainder of the summer, gaining additional experience in preparation for future service.

 
MAD (Music and Drama)

For those youth completing grades 8-12

A celebration of faith and Christian life through music and drama. Participants spend most of the week learning and rehearsing, mixed with a good balance of general camp life (Bible studies, recreation, etc.) The week concludes with a presentation for families and friends at the Indian Valley Middle School on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
